Don't Make Fun...

So, as a favor and semi-birthday gift for gin, I went to yoga with her on her birthday last week. They offer a $10 for 10 days deal for newcomers (classes are normally $14 each), so it was cheap and I was able to see what all the fuss was about. My thoughts on the experience?
- It was way harder than I expected. I knew the flexibility and balance stuff would be difficult, but a lot of it involved strength and mental focus.
- As a result of the difficulty level, it was a much better workout than I expected. I can't compare it to a certain distance in running because the two are vastly different, but I can say that I don't remember the last time I've had as good of a workout as that.
- It's mostly about the physical stuff, but there is definitely a mental aspect to it that I did not account for before I did it myself. I left with a clearer mind and, as tiring as it was, more energy. It helped me to focus on just that one thing, clearing out everything else from my mind. As a result, I left feeling less stressed and better prepared to take on the day.
- I can't back away from the opportunity to improve my skills, and yoga is no exception. I left wanting to come back and do better next time, wanting to improve my flexibility, strength, and balance.
- I'm still working on getting over the stereotype that yoga is for girls. I've been to 2 classes (going to my 3rd one today) and both so far have had at least 2 other guys in them. It seems to be pretty common for guys to do yoga, but I've got to get over the fact that I never pictured myself doing it and just enjoy it for what it is.
- I went for gin, but I went back for myself. I enjoyed it enough that I want to keep going, hopefully once a week to start with. We'll see how that goes over the long run.
So yeah, there's that. I'll probably post again soon with some thoughts on the state of my spiritual life, as it's gotten a nice bump over the past 24 hours or so and I'm hoping to see it continue to grow.
Oh yeah, and college football season is here! Texas beat Rice on Saturday 34-17 (not the blowout I was hoping for, but a win is a win). gin and I are looking at going to the Iowa State game in October, so that should be a fun weekend trip. Hookem!

Oops, another 2 months without a post. Time to play catch up.
1 year anniversary was fantastic. I highly recommend Horshoe Bay for anyone looking for a nice vacation place near Austin. We went waverunning, spent time at the pool and psuedo-beach, had a few nice meals and some incredible desserts, and just had an all around great weekend. I very appropriate way to celebrate one full year of marriage.
Built my mom a website, working on one for Katie and one for Cameron. Also hoping to have a paying client soon, but waiting to hear back from them.
Teamworks is amazing. I absolutely love it. I know I already gushed about it in my last blog post from two months ago, but time has only made my heart grow fonder. God forbid, if anything ever happened to my current job, I'd be applying at IBM for a position as a Teamworks developer. :P It's fun, intuitive, and extremely useful. I get to work on a pretty time-intensive project in TW for the next couple of months, so that should keep me interested at work.
College football - less than 3 weeks away! Conference realignment stuff kinda fizzled, if you weren't keeping up. Colorado and Nebraska are leaving the Big 12 for the Pac 10, but Texas is staying put. Should be a fun season with Gilbert taking the reins of the offense and waiting to see if one or two running backs step up and become the primary RB. The defense should be stout, though. Any worries I have about the offense should be offset by how awesome the defense is going to be. OU and Nebraska worry me, but if we take one out of two of those games, we should get through the rest of our schedule without much trouble and still have a good shot at going to the conference championship game. (I really need to finish up my Garrett Gilbert website...)
Celebrate Recovery is going well. It's helping me put the focus in my life back where it needs to be - on God. Too often my spiritual life becomes a footnote or afterthought, instead of being the primary focus and everything else being in relation to it. It helps to have a bunch of guys who understand the kind of stuff I'm dealing with and are encourage me. If you don't know what CR is or have never been, check it out. There isn't a single person that couldn't benefit from going.
New house! We got all moved in a little over a week ago, and got the last necessary piece of furniture moved in last night (refrigerator). The house is really starting to take shape. If you haven't seen it yet, look out for pictures soon.
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

Time to see what we have time to see

ginni and I celebrate our 1 year anniversary this weekend. We are going to Horseshoe Bay Resort and we are very excited. It's been the best year of my life, and I know next year will only be better.
I've been on a coding hiatus lately. No particular reason, I just haven't felt motivated/inspired. On my To Do List for web stuff include adding Category/Tag clouds on my site, pictures on both ginni's site and mine, as well as making my mom a new website (not to mention AptFinder).
I've fallen in love with a new piece of software: Teamworks. It's a business process management tool and is very cool. It has a GUI that is as simple as a flow chart to map out a business process, but has the coding complexity to implement functional applications. Recently, I've had to force myself to work on stuff that isn't Teamworks, or I'd get nothing else done.
College football is crazy lately. All the conference realignment talk is keeping the off-season rather interesting, for sure. In case you haven't been keeping up: as of now, the Big 12 is down to 10 teams (Nebraska left for the Big Ten, Colorado for the Pac-10). Despite rumors of Texas, Tech, OU, and Okie State joining Colorado out west, these schools announced that they are staying in the Big 12 and will keep the conference going. I wouldn't doubt if this wasn't the end of it, though. I foresee 4 Super Conferences forming some time within next 3 or 4 years.
Not much else to say except that the Rangers only a couple of weeks out from the All-Star Break. Yeah, I know.

I went to the dentist on Tuesday to have a root canal on my back right molar. Unfortunately, the cavity went too deep for a root canal - they had to extract it. After pulling that tooth, they figured they may as well pull the wisdom tooth that sat right behind it. After a miserable 4 1/2 hours, I had 2 teeth pulled, a deep cleaning, and a few fillings. I was miserable, but glad to be out of there. I had some pretty intense nausea yesterday afternoon, but I slept off most of it. No more Vicodin for me.
A GTL:
- A few people I know looking for jobs may have found them. Continuing prayers until we know for sure!
- Wedding plans are going well. We sent out invitations and have gotten RSVP's in the mail almost every day since!
- Work is going well. I really enjoy it, plus my financial picture is getting better every payday.
- 128 days until Texas Football kicks off
- My Fantasy Baseball team, while in last place, is winning 13-4 so far this week
- I'm getting married to ginni Tamez in 51 days!
- God never forgets me, even when I get so caught up in my life that I don't always remember Him.

I ran 5km this morning and it felt amazing. The weather was beautiful - warm, cloudy (the sun wasn't beating down on me), and a cool breeze. My goal was to run a little slower than my run on Monday, but to be more consistent from mile to mile. I think I did a pretty good job, as I finished out at 7:45/mi and ran fairly consistently. I have a 4 mile run to do on Saturday, so I'm going to try to maintain the consistency and pick up the pace a bit. We'll see how it goes.
ginni and I had lunch with Joel Halpin, pastor of The Springs Church, yesterday. It was cool to be able to get to know him better and share some about us with him. ginni and I are really excited about how we are going to be involved in the future of The Springs. More details to come on this soon.
Lately I've been pondering what it means to be "on fire" for God. What does it look like? How does one go from desiring to be in this state to actually desiring God enough to achieve it? As Aaron once said, I want to want God, but I don't want God. It's tough to get past that invisible barrier.
